"Charm splicing involves cutting out part of the magical energy in a charm and adding new magical energy in its place. The process is entirely magical with restriction elements used as magical 'scissors'. Depending on the type of restriction element used, different parts of the magical code can be targeted. A specific restriction element will split apart a specific strand of magical energy leaving behind a gap in the magical code. New magical energy can then be added in this gap. When a new strand of magical energy is added, it binds to the ends of the energy strands that were originally cut. A reparation element is used in the binding process. Once the new magical energy is in place, the function of the charm changes.
